Doctor of Science in Pediatric Dentistry
Overview
The PhD in Pediatric Dentistry program includes an intensive weekly clinical practical training for four academic years. This practical training takes place within the clinics of the College of Dentistry at the main campus and is conducted under the direct supervision of the faculty members of the College of Dentistry. This ensures the quality, efficiency, and gradual progression of the practical training load prescribed by the curriculum, guaranteeing the student excellent cumulative training experience.

Learning outcomes
1- Achieve in-depth knowledge of basic dental and medical sciences as they relate to and apply to the art and science of pediatric dentistry.
2- Gain a strong scientific background and information on a variety of topics relevant to the contemporary science and professional practice of pediatric dentistry.
3- Learn the basics of pediatrics by introducing them to common medical diseases that occur in childhood and adolescence.
4. Develop a comprehensive understanding of normal growth from childhood to adulthood, with the ability to recognize the mechanisms of cranial and facial growth, tooth development and occlusion, as well as craniofacial abnormalities and syndromes.
5- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in how to examine, diagnose, and manage major clinical issues associated with pediatric dentistry.
Tracks
- The first-year PhD program in Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry aims to restore and enhance knowledge acquired from various integrated fields of basic medical and dental sciences.
- The importance of fundamental biostatistics concepts for oral epidemiology and dental research is also highlighted.
- Knowledge gained about occlusion is also enhanced, including the differentiation between normal and abnormal occlusion and methods for correcting occlusion.
- Students are also provided with deep knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry, including principles of diagnosis, treatment planning, and how to guide child behavior and manage pain.
- In the second year, students are exposed to more clinical work.
- To provide them with deep knowledge and understanding of dental occlusion formation in normal and pathological cases.
- Assisting a graduate student in managing their personal health conditions.
- The PhD dissertation is initiated at the end of the second year.
- In the third and fourth years, the greatest focus is placed on the doctoral dissertation along with clinical work. This is to provide students with a deep understanding of research in conjunction with clinical practice.
- Where students are prepared to participate in research in the field of dentistry and related fields.
- Students will undertake a substantial individual research project related to a thesis on an approved topic under the supervision of a team of advisors.
- The submitted work should be published and make a distinct contribution to the student's field of interest.
