His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, inaugurated on Sunday morning, November 17, 2024, the Abdullah Al-Othaim Diabetes Center at the Medical City of Qassim University, in the presence of His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Sharekh, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Othaim, Their Excellencies the University Vice Presidents, and leaders of the Medical City.
HH the Emir praised this integrated center and the university's distinguished role in enhancing its specialized medical services, Following his tour of the center's facilities, which contains 34 specialized and integrated clinics, including type 1 diabetes clinics, insulin pump clinics, an integrated department concerned with pediatric diabetes care, in addition to diabetes education, therapeutic nutrition, pharmacological education and social service clinics, a specialized unit for detecting diabetes complications In cooperation with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, the center has an estimated annual capacity of 90,000 visits to doctors' clinics, 29,000 visits to diabetes complications screening clinics, 70,000 visits to support clinics, and 37,000 visits to diabetic foot clinics, at a cost of 5. 800,000 riyals,800,000 riyals.

Medical care
Medical care is a student's right. Therefore, the university provides free medical care to its students through its medical clinics in the University City in Al Milleda. These clinics include general, surgical and specialized clinics, as well as a dental clinic. These clinics provide medical care to university staff and employees as well as students.
Government hospitals provide comprehensive medical care for Saudi citizens, including students, as well as medical care for international students. College of Pharmacy launches awareness campaign to prevent breast cancer
The College of Pharmacy at Qassim University, in cooperation with Tuhour Charitable Society and Al-Amal Mental Health Hospital, launched an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Mental Health Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Onaiza Mall, Onaiza Governorate. The campaign included two sections, one for mental health and the other for breast cancer awareness, and 18 students participated in providing medical and educational services to visitors, where they measured the pressure and sugar of the guests, who numbered more than 200 male and female visitors, and answered their questions and inquiries about standards and controls to maintain public health.
For his part, Dr. Yasser Al-Muqbel, Vice Dean of the College, stressed the need to activate international events dedicated to raising awareness of specific diseases, and to invest these events in spreading awareness among members of the community and introducing the reasons for preventing these diseases and methods of treatment in case of infection, pointing out that the colleges of Qassim University provide many health, awareness and cultural services to the people of the region, sensing its social role as the largest scientific and academic institution in the region.
He pointed out that the faculty members and male and female students of the College of Pharmacy always take the initiative to participate in service, awareness and health activities for the people of the Kingdom, referring to the major campaign implemented by the College of Pharmacy last summer in several regions of the Kingdom under the slogan "Health We Care to Care", which was accepted and welcomed in the areas it went to, and achieved many health and awareness objectives for large numbers of visitors to the campaign's headquarters.

Academic Support and Advising Academic
Academic advising is one of the pillars of university education in the Kingdom, as it aims to guide students to obtain the best results, adapt to the university environment, and seize the opportunities available to them, by providing them with academic skills that raise the level of their academic achievement. Given the importance of academic advising in the university colleges, it is necessary to form a unit or committee specialized in academic support and advising.
About Academic Advising
General concepts:
The Academic Support and Counseling Unit is a unit established by a decision of the Dean of the College and is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the implementation of the academic supervision process in the college, and the committee is accountable to the Dean of the College or the Vice Dean of the College for Educational Affairs.
Academic advising is the responsibility of all faculty members and not just the Academic Support and Advising Unit, so all faculty members are involved in academic supervision activities for students.
An academic advisor is a faculty member or equivalent who is appointed by the Academic Support and Advising Unit to perform the task of academic advising for a group of college students.
The unit works in coordination and cooperation with the Counseling and Guidance Department at the Deanship of Student Affairs.
Message of the Academic Support and Counseling Unit:
The Academic Support and Counseling Unit is concerned with providing support and guidance to college students to benefit from their own abilities, work to develop their skills, encourage them to excel and academic creativity, and graduate within the specified period after acquiring scientific expertise and practical skills that provide them with a successful opportunity to work, as well as studying their psychological, health, financial and career issues and contributing to their solution.
Objectives of the Academic Support and Counseling Unit:
Preparing students to learn and adapt to university life.
Provide students with the right information about the college, educational policies, resources, and programs.
Enhancing students' academic achievement, raising their abilities, and overcoming obstacles during academic achievement.
Reducing the chances of academic failure (preventive counseling).
Counseling and assisting students who are facing academic issues.
Paying attention to low-achieving and struggling students and following up with them to raise their academic level.
Caring and assisting students socially, financially, healthily, psychologically, psychologically, and functionally if needed.
Paying attention to outstanding and distinguished students, and providing what enhances their abilities and supports their creativity.
Tasks of the Academic Support and Counseling Unit:
- Developing a plan for academic supervision in the college.
Supervising the implementation of the academic supervision plan.
Spreading awareness among students about the nature and importance of the unit and how to benefit from its services through meetings, bulletins, and the college website.
Introducing students to the goals and mission of the college, its educational programs, its scientific departments, the fields of work of its graduates, and the aspects of care and services it provides to students, and guiding them to choose majors suitable for their abilities and potentials.
Distributing new students to academic supervisors and publishing the lists on bulletin boards and the college website at the beginning of each year.
Submit periodic reports (mid-semester) that include the unit's work and students' level to the college administration.
Studying the cases referred to it by the college administration, preparing reports on them and submitting them to the competent authorities.
Consider the academic issues raised by the counselors and seek to resolve them with the college administration.
Consider student complaints of an academic nature and develop appropriate solutions or raise them to the college administration if necessary.
Consider students' complaints related to any course, find solutions, and submit them to the college administration.
Raising awareness of the importance of academic counseling and the importance of communicating with the academic advisor by publishing brochures and publications and using the college website for this purpose.
Supervising orientation programs for new students to introduce them to the study and testing system at the college.
Hold regular meetings every 4 weeks or according to new reports to discuss periodic or exceptional reports submitted by academic advisors.
Contributing to solving students' psychological, financial, social and career issues and raising them when needed to the Deanship of Student Affairs to take the necessary measures.
Academic Advisor Tasks:
View the registration, deletion, and addition dates announced by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
Know the college's study plan and graduation requirements for students, and ensure that the student's schedule aligns with the study plan.
Preparing and updating the academic advising file for each student, where the counselor opens a special file for each student that includes registered subjects, grade level, GPA, minutes of periodic meetings between the counselor and the student, and any reports or alerts issued by the course of the subject, to assess the student's level.
Organize periodic interviews (at least once at the beginning of each semester) with each student to:
The student's performance in the previous semester.
Motivate the student and encourage him to work harder and praise him if he excels in some courses.
Discuss difficulties, if any, and look for appropriate solutions.
Discuss the appropriate options for the student in the next semester (enrollment or deletion, raising the GPA, choosing a major, etc.).
Providing assistance to the student in case of registration difficulties or course conflicts.
Careful follow-up of the student's academic achievement in the registered subjects, writing periodic reports and attaching them to the student's file.
Addressing faculty members if the student's level is low.
If a student's attendance or achievement is poor, regular meetings are intensified, and the reasons for the issue are discussed and resolved or referred to the Academic Advising Committee.
Discovering and developing students' talents.
Helping students learn how to utilize the college's e-learning website.
Encourage students to participate in academic and extracurricular activities.
It is preferred that a student does not change advisor from the moment of enrollment until graduation.
The dean of the college or his deputy does not sign the certificate of good conduct until after a letter from the academic advisor stating that the student has completed all the requirements.

The student takes full responsibility for their academic achievement as academic advising is an auxiliary mechanism.
Review the college catalog and website to familiarize yourself with department, college, and university requirements.
Familiarize yourself with the details of the academic calendar and important dates related to registration, withdrawal, apology, etc.
Know the academic advisor and his office hours.
Meet with the advisor for a consultation about academic and career goals, the program, the schedule, and to ask about any ambiguities.
Implementing the consultant's recommendations and continuing to meet with him according to the agreed dates.
Inform the advisor of any variables that may affect their program or academic achievement.
University launches psychological support initiative for health practitioners
The university, represented by the College of Medicine, announced the launch of an initiative under the slogan "Psychological Support for Health Practitioners in Qassim Region" in light of the Corona pandemic, provided by a number of specialists and consultants from the Department of Psychiatry, under the supervision of the College's Community Service Unit, where the initiative is implemented remotely for 3 days from 10 pm to 12 pm on 22-24/6/2020 through the Zoom program.
This initiative aims to provide psychological counseling for health practitioners in the region to support them psychologically and to alleviate the effects of the psychological and professional pressures they have experienced since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, as they were at the forefront of the response to this pandemic and the implementation of the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the Kingdom's government to confront this crisis.
The initiative begins on Monday, 6/22/2020, by providing psychological support consultations for health practitioners with Dr. Mohammed Al-Hamid, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, and the psychological support consultations continue on Tuesday, 6/23/2020, with Dr. Abdullah Al-Qaffari, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, and on the third and final day, Dr. Sumaya Al-Juhani, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, will provide a number of psychological consultations to help health practitioners in the region overcome the psychological effects and psychological support during this pandemic.

The programs offered by the university to the people of Qubbah and its surroundings also included awareness of the harms of drugs and their danger to the individual and society, in addition to recreational and sports programs. The fourth edition of this campaign, which was held more than 150 kilometers away from the university's headquarters in Buraidah, comes within the framework of the university's keenness to provide its community services to all the people of Qassim region and reach them in their places, as the university had previously presented three editions of this campaign in several governorates in Qassim region.
A hotline for Sharia and family counseling in an awareness, health and education campaign in Aqla al-Suqur
The organizing committee of the "Awareness, Health and Education" campaign organized by the university for the second consecutive year has allocated a hotline for family consultations implemented by the Isaad Center for Family Consultations (boys and girls), where the number (920012020) has been allocated to receive men's calls, while women's consultations are received at the number (0163822999). The campaign also provides a service for legal consultations, where Sheikh Dr. Fahd Ali Al-Sulami receives and answers calls at the number (0560602041) for seven days during the campaign period, for the second consecutive year.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Nusayyan, Dean of the Deanship of Community Service at the University and Executive Director of the campaign, explained that this service was provided to serve the community, answer all legal inquiries, and provide family advice for men and women, as the university provides a suitable environment by providing a private and confidential atmosphere between the caller and the receiver, and offering appropriate treatment through specialists, and aims to reach the beneficiaries in their places, who cannot come to the campaign and want treatment for their issues in particular.
He stressed that the university seeks to benefit Aqlah Al-Suqur governorate and its neighboring villages and instill Islamic values and intellectual awareness through all fields, as the campaign was keen to raise family, social and Sharia awareness through specialized courses and Sharia programs that targeted mosques, schools and some specialized sites.
