University Medical City performs minimally invasive aortic valve replacement surgery

The University Medical City performed a specialized procedure for aortic valve replacement using minimally invasive techniques, through a small 4-5 centimeter incision in the right anterior chest wall, without the need to cut the sternum. This step reflects the advancement in the use of modern and precise surgical technologies.

The operation was performed by a cardiac surgery team led by Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Akhtar, and an anesthesia team led by Dr. Mohammed Aba Al-Khail, within an integrated work system.

This technique is considered an advanced surgical method that contributes to reducing post-operative pain, minimizing blood loss, and decreasing the likelihood of complications, in addition to accelerating recovery and enabling the patient to resume their daily activities more quickly compared to traditional surgery.

Limited intervention also offers a better aesthetic advantage, reduces the length of hospital stay, and helps with early return to movement and daily activities, which positively reflects on the patient's quality of life after surgery.

This type of procedure is part of the university's commitment to developing its health and specialized services and enhancing the capabilities of the medical city in providing advanced care according to the latest medical practices, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
