His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Qassim Region, inaugurated the Abdullah Al-Othaim Center for Diabetes at the Medical City of Qassim University on Sunday morning, November 17, 2024. The inauguration was attended by His Excellency the President of the University, Professor Dr. Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Sharikh, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Othaim, university vice presidents, and leaders of the Medical City.
His Highness the Emir of the region praised this integrated center, and the university's distinguished role in enhancing its specialized medical services, and providing comprehensive care for diabetic patients, following his tour of the center's facilities. The center includes 34 specialized and integrated clinics, including Type 1 diabetes clinics, insulin pump clinics, and an integrated department for pediatric diabetes care, in addition to diabetes education, medical nutrition, and pharmaceutical education clinics, social services, and a specialized unit for detecting diabetes complications with integrated and high-quality equipment in the region. It also includes a unit for diagnosing hereditary diabetes cases through genetic testing, in cooperation with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. The center's estimated annual capacity reaches 90,000 visits to doctor's clinics, 29,000 visits to diabetic complication screening clinics, 70,000 visits to ancillary clinics, and 37,000 visits to diabetic foot clinics, with a cost of 5,800,000 riyals.
As His Highness toured the accompanying exhibition, which showcased the services of the Diabetes Complications Unit, introduced the Genetic Diabetes Unit, and displayed community participations, in addition to food products suitable for diabetics from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food's food factory, and the educational platform.
His Highness was also briefed on the Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Chair for Artificial Intelligence, which was established in March 2021, with support from Sheikh Abdullah Al Othaim. His Highness witnessed the Chair's most important achievements, its support for research, cooperation with distinguished international investors, research agreements and partnerships, its educational and instructional role, scientific publication, and the citations of the Chair's research and outputs.
At the conclusion of the honor of His Highness the Prince of Qassim Region for the opening of the center, the university presented an award to Sheikh Abdullah Al-Othaim in appreciation for his generous support of the center and the professorial chair. His Highness praised Al-Othaim for his charitable works, community contributions, and successful endeavors, including this specialized diabetes center.
