Successful High-Risk C-Section at Medical City Avoids Hysterectomy for Patient

A medical team at the University Hospital in the Medical City at Qassim University successfully performed a high-risk Cesarean section on a patient suffering from placenta previa with suspected placenta accreta. The medical team was able to control the bleeding and preserve the uterus without the need for its removal, with the participation of an integrated team from the departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Interventional Radiology, and Anesthesia.

The medical team explained that such cases are among the most complex births, due to the serious hemorrhagic complications that may accompany them, which necessitated the preparation of an integrated treatment plan before the operation, which relied on coordination between various specialties and readiness for immediate intervention when needed using appropriate medical technologies.

The team explained that the interventional radiologist performed vascular catheterization under ultrasound guidance, to be ready for rapid intervention in case of bleeding during the procedure. The obstetrics and gynecology team performed the Cesarean section with precision, continuously monitoring the placental position and ensuring the patient's safety after delivery.

The anesthesia team developed an appropriate anesthetic plan, maintaining vital sign stability and being prepared to directly manage any potential complications, which contributed to the safe completion of the operation.

The medical team, led by Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant Dr. Nasser Mulass, Interventional Radiology Consultant Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Gharas, and Anesthesia Consultant Dr. Sameh Al-Sherbiny, confirmed that – praise be to God – the bleeding was controlled during the surgery without the need for embolization materials, which contributed to the successful completion of the operation and the preservation of the uterus and the patient's stable health.

This success reflects the importance of advance planning and integration between different medical specialties in managing high-risk placenta cases, contributing to improving patient safety and treatment outcomes. The Qassim University Medical City continues to provide its health services through specialized staff and advanced equipment and technologies, enabling it to handle critical and complex cases according to the highest quality standards.
