Energy wastage identification
Qassim University identifies where energy is being wasted through field surveys and technical studies of its buildings, monthly monitoring of electricity consumption, a Building Management System that logs energy use automatically, a Standing Committee for Energy Management, and the annual assessment of the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center.
Field surveys and technical studies identify energy-efficiency opportunities in university buildings
Before installing the solar system, Tarshid carried out field surveys and technical studies of the rooftops of university buildings. According to Tarshid’s CEO, these studies identified the opportunities to raise energy efficiency through solar panels, leading to the 5,137 kW project launched on 4 March 2025, which is expected to save 8.6 million kWh per year.
Saudi Energy Efficiency Center assessment for 2025: 100%
The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center assesses the University’s compliance with energy-consumption rationalization every year. For 2025 the University achieved 100%, confirming that its buildings and facilities meet the national rationalization requirements.
Standing Committee for Energy Management
The Standing Committee for Energy Management, re-formed by a decision of 19 January 2025, prepares, implements and evaluates the University’s energy-rationalization action plan in line with the guideline of the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center, following up energy use in university buildings to identify where it can be reduced.
Monthly monitoring of electricity consumption
The University records its electricity consumption every month and charts it to compare months and years, monitor use, and identify periods and facilities where consumption can be reduced.
Smart building systems: automatic energy monitoring and building management
The University applies smart-building technologies to detect energy waste: a Building Management System (BMS/BAS/FMS); automatic acquisition and logging of energy and water consumption; monitoring of temperature, humidity and air velocity through MAXIMO; CO2 monitoring; and high-efficiency LED luminaires. The systems are operated from a central control room, where consumption data are followed up continuously.
Workshop of the Standing Committee for Energy Management with the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center
The University’s Standing Committee for Energy Management, with the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center, held a workshop on consumption patterns and rationalization in air-conditioning, lighting and vehicles.
