Energy provider renovation and construction
Qassim University is working to fulfill its responsibility in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving efficient energy use. Therefore, it has supported the efficient use of energy in all university buildings. Over the past period, plans for efficient energy use were developed, followed by supporting measures, which include the following:
Switching to LED lighting.
Given that Saudi Arabia enjoys sunny weather year-round, which helps in utilizing daylight to illuminate buildings during the day, Qassim University has used daylight as a lighting source in its building designs, which in turn has reduced the use of lamps during the day.
Use automatic doors that reduce the loss of refrigerated air, which in turn reduces energy loss.
Use ENERGY STAR certified appliances.
Adjust university building air conditioners to energy-saving temperatures.
Using sensor-equipped lighting in buildings.
Annual maintenance of HVAC systems for optimal performance.
Insulation of water heaters and pipes.
Seal and insulate windows, doors, and attics to prevent heat loss or gain.
Insulating building walls to reduce energy loss.
Raising awareness about energy conservation among university community members.
Qassim University applies all the specifications of the Saudi codes for non-residential buildings in all its new buildings.
These codes include all green building elements and energy efficiency specifications. Among these codes are the Saudi Building Code for Energy Conservation - Non-Residential Buildings (SBC 601) and the Saudi Green Building Code (SBC 1001).
