Water-conscious building standards
In response to water scarcity and environmental sustainability, Qassim university has taken proactive steps to incorporate water-conscious building standards into the design, construction, renovation, and operation of all campus buildings. The university integrates principles from globally recognized sustainable building standards that emphasize the reduction of indoor and outdoor water use, efficient plumbing systems, leak detection and prevention, install automatic leak detection systems and shut-off valves, wastewater reuse. In addition, all new buildings in the university are based on Saudi National buildings codes which satisfy the required water conscious standards.

Qassim University has obtained a patent certificate from the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property for the innovation of a “system and method for water desalination using a salt-tolerant plant.” This is achieved through a closed biological system capable of transforming highly saline water into distilled fresh water.
