A distinguished department - locally and regionally - in specialized doctrinal studies, qualifying research competencies, contributing to serving the community in the field of doctrine, religions and sects, and immunizing against intellectual deviations.

Preparing and graduating competent students qualified in Islamic doctrine and moderate thought, in accordance with comprehensive educational quality standards to meet the needs of society, the labor market, and scientific research.
Overview
The Department of Doctrine and Contemporary Schools was established in the courtyard of the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic College in Al-Qassim branch in 1396, then in the Al-Qassim College. A number of scholars, including the scholar Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Athmiin, joined the department, and he took over the chairmanship of the department and then became a member of it until his passing away, may Allah have mercy on him. Among them are Professor Dr. Nasser Al-Fagari and Dr. Yousef Al-Ghaifes, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, among others. The department was concerned with studying the ideology of the righteous predecessors and rejecting it, and the department’s thesis (Preparing and graduating qualified and qualified students in Islamic doctrine and moderate Islamic thought, in accordance with comprehensive quality standards to meet the needs of society, the labor market, and scientific research)

Objectives :
The department aims to: prepare specialized and distinguished scientific competencies in the field of faith, religions, sects, and contemporary schools to face contemporary challenges, develop specialized educational environment, in accordance with modern methods and technological means, contribute to specialized scientific research, participate in solving contemporary problems, and meet the needs of the community and the labor market, and contribute to enhancing the pioneering role of Qassim University in achieving the requirements of sustainable national development.
Department programs:
In the Bachelor's degree: The department teaches courses in theology, denominations, religions, contemporary schools of thought, and Islamic culture at the university's colleges.
In postgraduate studies: The Department offers the Master's Program in Contemporary Doctrine and Schools since 1429, a program fully accredited until 2028 by the accreditation center affiliated with the Evaluation and Accreditation Authority for Education and Training.
The PhD program in Contemporary Doctrine and Schools of Thought, established in 1435 and fully accredited until 2031 by the Accreditation Center of the Evaluation and Accreditation Board for Education and Training.
Research priorities in the department (2026 to 2029):
• Priority 1: Studying and addressing societal, intellectual, behavioral, and national threats, and supporting dialogue and moderation.
• Priority 2: Follow the conceptual aspects in modern technological means and artificial intelligence programs.
• Third priority: Monitoring and surveying the scientific dissemination vessels to provide the scientific gaps and feedback that the specialty needs.
• Fourth priority: in-depth research into contemporary creeds, religions, sects, and schools of thought.
