Overview
The field of the foundations of education is characterized as a discipline that brings together a wide range of diverse fields of knowledge, closely linked to educational practices within the educational system—whether within its internal environment, or in its immediate external context, such as societal culture, or in its broader context, such as the world and its current and future challenges. It is a science that examines the foundations, principles, and elements upon which any educational endeavor is based, in terms of the relationships of influence and interaction between these fields of knowledge and their scientific outcomes as they relate to educational practices. and thus its fields and foundations are diverse, ranging from the philosophical, social, economic, political, and cultural foundations of education, to adult education, sustainable education, educational planning, future studies, educational media, and educational informatics. Its approaches are diverse and its tools numerous, aiming to achieve a holistic and comprehensive understanding and to delve into the depths of the phenomenon to elucidate the forces and factors that led to it, to arrive at the general and comprehensive visions, concepts, and goals of any educational practice within or outside the educational system, and the successful and effective solutions for them in the short and long term. Reductionism and fragmentation are not the tasks of research in the field of the foundations of education, unless it serves as a means to achieve understanding and clarification, ensuring a comprehensive perspective and holistic approach, diagnosing the actual role of educational institutions in resolving the problems and issues of the educational system, and presenting a future vision for developing this role; in harmony with the nature of educational practices, which are characterized by comprehensiveness and holism. The Department of Foundations of Education is one of the main pillars upon which the College of Education at Qassim University is based. The department aims, in integration with the other departments in the college, to achieve comprehensive development plans for society; to realize the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its programs, particularly the Human Capacity Development Program 2021, This is achieved by preparing distinguished professionals in the field of Foundations of Education who effectively contribute to the development of educational and research practices; to develop society using the latest scientific methods and techniques, to achieve local and global leadership, and excellence in its programs and research; thereby achieving sustainable community development, within the framework of the department’s vision, mission, goals, values, and policies; to provide a work environment based on team spirit, striving for the careful selection of inputs and the continuous improvement of processes, to achieve outputs characterized by quality and excellence. The Department of Foundations of Education takes pride in its constant commitment to maintaining an elite group of distinguished faculty members, a select group of current students, and a steady stream of graduates of the highest quality and proficiency in the field of education, who go on to hold senior positions in various educational sectors and institutions within the local and international community. Since the department’s establishment in 1429 AH, and with the support of the Deanship of the College of Education and Qassim University, the department has been committed to equipping its students with the fundamentals and policies of the teaching profession, as well as the applications of continuing education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It offers several academic programs at various levels, including undergraduate courses, as well as academic programs such as the Master’s Program in Foundations of Education, which has been offered since 1430 AH under a course-and-thesis system and is fully accredited as the first accredited program of its kind in the Kingdom, and the PhD program in Education with a specialization in the Foundations of Education, which has been offered since 1438 AH under a course-and-thesis system as well. The department seeks to have it accredited in the near future within an educational system characterized by diligent efforts to continuously improve the level of academic education and its outcomes, and to contribute to the development of the field of education. We ask Allah to grant our department success, guidance, and wisdom to achieve our nation’s goals and its wise vision.
