The university organizes an awareness workshop on the risks of public wireless networks and ways to protect against them

The Cybersecurity Department at Al-Qassim University organized an awareness workshop titled «Cybersecurity in Public Wireless Networks: Risks and Ways of Protection» yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as part of the university’s efforts to promote awareness of cybersecurity and raise the level of knowledge about digital risks and methods of prevention, in conjunction with the month of awareness of cybersecurity, at the Computer College in the main campus.

The workshop addressed the most prominent cyber risks associated with the use of public wireless networks, and the threats that may result from connecting to unsecured networks targeting personal data and sensitive information, in addition to reviewing methods for exploiting these networks in hacking and unauthorized access to data and devices.

The workshop also reviewed a range of preventive practices and guidelines that contribute to enhancing information security, including verifying the reliability of networks before connecting to them, avoiding performing sensitive operations over unsecured public networks, using appropriate protection tools, and constantly updating devices and software, which contribute to reducing cyber risks and promoting safe digital behavior.

This workshop comes as part of the continuous efforts of Al-Qassim University to disseminate a cybersecurity culture among its employees, enhance awareness of the importance of protecting data and information, and establish safe digital practices in light of the growing challenges and cyber threats.
