The Center for Sustainable Development at the University held a scientific meeting on Tuesday, 22 Sha'ban 1447 H, on the issue of microplastic pollution. The meeting was attended by a select group of researchers and specialists from within the university. The meeting focused on reviewing the latest scientific research on the spread of fine plastic particles in the environment and the health and environmental effects they cause, affecting the quality of life and the sustainability of natural resources.
The discussions came in line with global trends aimed at reducing pollutants that threaten human health and ecosystems, promoting more efficient management of water resources, and moving towards responsible production and consumption patterns that reduce plastic waste and limit its leakage into marine and terrestrial environments. Participants also addressed the role of reducing plastic pollution in supporting climate efforts, protecting biodiversity, and preserving the ecosystems on which communities rely for their food and resources.
This meeting comes as part of the center’s efforts to promote scientific research and cognitive integration, and raise awareness about contemporary environmental issues, thereby contributing to supporting the path of sustainable development at the local and global levels, and strengthening the role of the university in facing environmental challenges through knowledge and innovation.
