Qassim University Statement
Qassim University clarifies that at exactly 2:45 PM today, Monday, corresponding to 8/7/1436 AH, the roof of a section of the conference center building project (under construction) at the university city in Al-Mulaida collapsed while pouring the reinforced concrete roof with a diameter of 27 meters in one part of the project.
According to the project contractor’s statistics, the number of missing workers estimated to be under the rubble is “15” workers, based on official records. The university's Projects and Maintenance Department and the relevant authorities (Civil Defense, Red Crescent, Health Affairs) have responded to the incident. As of the preparation of this statement, 6 injured workers have been extricated and transported to hospitals for medical follow-up and assessment. Seven bodies of Asian workers and one Egyptian engineer have been recovered. Two workers are still missing as of the preparation of this statement, and the Civil Defense is continuing its search for them through specialized technical teams.
The university, in announcing this, extends its sincerest condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased, and prays for the recovery of the injured.
His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Qassim Region, has directed the formation of an urgent committee to discuss the incident of the collapse of part of the conference building at Qassim University. The committee will consist of representatives from the Emirate of the Region, Qassim University, the Civil Defense, and the Municipality of Qassim, and will submit an urgent report on the matter to His Highness.
This came during His Highness's direct monitoring of the incident, during which His Excellency the President of the University, Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Hammoudi, briefed him on the collapsed section of the building. His Highness followed the developments of the events and the operations to rescue the workers from under the rubble.
