The university has achieved a new international accomplishment by entering the Emerging Universities Rankings 2021, according to Times Higher Education, ranking 401 globally among universities less than fifty years old. It has only been established for eighteen years, compared to other older universities, as it is academically recognized that universities depend on their age and established reputation, which ensures their spread in academic circles.
The university was able to enter this ranking after competing in more than thirteen main criteria containing many sub-indicators, in which the university excelled compared to many emerging universities competing in this ranking. This is considered a first and important step for the university, which aspires to enhance its position in this qualitative international ranking, and in other global rankings.
For his part, Professor Dr. Khalid Bani Al-Harbi, Vice President of the University for Planning, Development, and Quality, explained that, praise be to God, the university has managed to enter more than 15 main classifications and many sub-classifications, with God's help, then with the generous support it receives from the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them – and with the support and backing it receives from the esteemed Prince of the Qassim region and his deputy, and the follow-up and support of His Excellency the Minister of Education, and under the leadership of its President, His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood. The university is following in the footsteps of prestigious global universities in this important aspect, achieving the aspirations of the rulers and Vision 2030, alongside other Saudi universities that have proven to the world their ability to compete with established universities globally, which contributes to building human capital and knowledge in our dear kingdom.
Al-Harbi affirmed that international rankings are one of the important tools for individuals and entities, such as students and parents, to distinguish between the performance of academic institutions and the level of universities based on recognized academic benchmarks that show the level of differentiation between these institutions. He explained that academic institutions, especially universities, compete to achieve advanced positions in these rankings, which compare them based on academic reputation and educational quality.
“Al-Harbi” pointed out that the university paid attention to these rankings, just like international universities, considering the university's capabilities, educational quality, and academic reputation in recent years, in order to compete with international universities in the field of global rankings. He highlighted the successes achieved by the university, praise be to God, by entering the most prestigious international rankings. The most important of these was the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, which branches into several important rankings, including the World Ranking and the Impact Rankings, which the university entered previously, praise be to God. Al-Qassim University competed with international universities with great merit in these rankings, followed by the university's entry into many sub-rankings of this major international body.
