His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, launched the University's Strategic Plan «2020-2025» yesterday, Monday, corresponding to 10/7/1442 AH, after receiving it yesterday morning at his office at the university campus from His Excellency the Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, Professor Dr. Khalid bin Bani Al-Harbi, the Head of the University's Strategic Plan Team, Dr. Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Tuwaijri, and the team members.
His Excellency the President of the University blessed the new plan after receiving it and reviewing a visual presentation of its details, emphasizing that this plan will help the university fulfill its developmental role, enhancing our national economic diversification efforts and contributing to the achievement of national and local sustainable development goals, under wise leadership that seeks to support the education system and overcome obstacles for Saudi universities to attain a prestigious international status. He expressed his gratitude to them for their efforts in preparing it and invoked God's guidance for all.
The university plan includes twenty strategic initiatives comprising ninety strategic projects. The progress of this plan's implementation is measured through fifty key strategic performance indicators. The university strives to achieve eight strategic objectives: ensuring the quality of education, enhancing student competencies, strengthening research identity, improving administrative performance, improving technical performance, increasing income and efficiency of spending, completing and developing infrastructure, and fostering national and international partnerships. The university also has four strategic programs managed by university vice-presidents: a program for education and student competencies, a program for research, innovation, and sustainability, a program for institutionalization, governance, and automation, and a program for financing, endowments, and assets.
The new university plan contributes to guiding strategic thinking, decision-making, and raising ambition levels. This is achieved through an ambitious vision that leads the university towards national leadership in education, research, and sustainability, along with effective national and international partnerships. Additionally, an inspiring mission states that the university provides educational, professional, research, and advisory services that enhance sustainable national development and self-generated resources.
The plan also helps create an inspiring, regulatory, and enabling environment for innovation, technology, and partnership, through its commitment to seven core values: fostering loyalty and belonging, achieving justice, upholding integrity, supporting transparency, advocating for excellence, motivating innovation, and embedding a culture of teamwork and institutionalism.
The university is considered one of the first Saudi universities to prepare a strategic plan to define its roles, achieve its objectives, and shape its future. It is also the third Saudi university to obtain institutional accreditation. The university possesses all the components for development in its various scientific and professional dimensions. Therefore, it has adopted a precise scientific methodology in preparing this plan and has involved a number of its partners in its preparation. It has relied on national strategic frameworks, most notably the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the new Universities Law.
