His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, the President of the University, said: "This nation has a very great right over us, and we are a people who live in great blessings, the most important of which are security, stability, and national unity between this people and the leadership. There are corrupt and envious individuals targeting this country, who try through social media to incite the youth of the Kingdom against their state and leadership, and against the achievements of this nation. The biggest loser is he who believes them. Look at others and take heed.".
During the «Student Meeting» organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs at the university today, Monday, corresponding to 17/1/1441 AH, at the university city campus, His Excellency the University President cautioned his sons, the students, against those who attempt to undermine the distinguished national unity between the people and the leadership. He advised them not to pay attention to the fleeting words uttered by some, pointing out that this stability enjoyed by our country is what has made it easier for students to reach university, from the first grade of primary school through high school graduation and admission to university.
He added, addressing the students: “If you were in an unstable country, you would not receive any certificate or education. We are in great blessings.” He advised them by saying: "Do not hand over your mind to others, and do not let others manage it. You have your own thoughts, so think to know the difference between the best, better, and the worst, and to know the right path from the wrong path." He emphasized the necessity and importance of preserving our homeland, standing united with our leaders, and appreciating the state's efforts for our benefit.
The university president congratulated all male and female students on their acceptance to the university, asking God Almighty for their journey at this university to be one of goodness, giving, and excellence, serving our religion and our homeland under the leadership of our wise leadership. He said: We at this university live as one team, with the participation of everyone, starting from the university president, vice presidents, deans, department managers, and all university staff, down to the male and female students. We are all one team and we move forward with cooperation and solidarity to achieve one goal, which is to have a distinguished product that we are proud of to serve our nation and our religion in its comprehensive development in various fields.
During his address to the students, “Al-Dawood” emphasized the importance of preserving the university's achievements and cooperating with everyone to elevate its standards. He stated that their reputation is intertwined with that of their university, and the degrees they receive upon graduation will remain with them throughout their lives. He added, “We are with you and we listen to you. If no one else listens to you, I am here, and I listen to you through my email on the university website, which I constantly monitor and through which I hear from you. All messages sent to me are followed up on. We have received a very large number of messages, which have been forwarded to the relevant parties, and many of them have been followed up on. Thank God, this has yielded many benefits not only for the sender but also for me in the university administration.".
“Al-Dawood” pointed out that communication channels are abundant at the university. Last year, our beneficiary service received more than forty-eight thousand nine hundred calls. Our colleagues responded to the callers' inquiries and questions, which is a very large number. However, this helps us serve you and elevates the university's standard, as it is our shared home. Therefore, we must all cooperate for its advancement. He urged anyone with a suggestion, observation, or inquiry to contact us through the university's communication channels, as we are all striving to serve you, because our students are the foundation of the university.
The university president emphasized the necessity for students to be persistent and to disregard those who discourage them. He urged them to strive to raise their GPA from the very beginning of the first semester, expressing his hope that students would build a high GPA from the start and not become discouraged, as this is a good opportunity to improve their academic standing, especially since they are in a new phase and have ample opportunity.
“Al-Dawood” explained that the university has many activities, and among them will be the “Skills Record.” This record will be with the student upon graduation, attached with all the conferences, seminars, and activities the student attended. It will be monitored electronically, and the student's attendance and duration will be recorded. The record will also document any effort the student makes. He said, "We are all in the same boat to serve this nation and its development under our wise leadership.".
His Excellency the President of the University concluded his address to the students by speaking about the great support the university receives from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Highness the Crown Prince, and His Highness the Governor of Al-Qassim region and His Highness his deputy, noting that there is no university in the world that gives a bonus to students as Saudi universities do, and the encouragement and support that students receive, in addition to billions of riyals spent on education to reach what we have reached, or what others could not reach. I advise you, my sons, to be good to your homeland, your leadership, and your people.
The “Student Meeting” included an open forum with the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Aqla, the Dean of Admissions and Registration, Dr. Fahad Al-Ahmad, and the Dean of Educational Services, Dr. Saleh Al-Huwayrini, and students. They answered students' questions in their respective fields regarding what students might encounter during their academic journey, their rights, and their responsibilities.
As part of the event, there was a meeting with Professor Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Baddah, a lecturer at the College of Computer Science, who has special needs. The lecture was titled “Everything is Possible.” He spoke about his journey from being a university student, graduating from the College of Computer Science, being appointed as a teaching assistant there, and then being sent to the United States of America for his master's degree. Now, he is working as a lecturer at the College of Computer Science at the university and is preparing to be sent abroad again for his doctoral studies.
“Al-Badah” added in his speech to the students that about 10 years ago, he was in their exact place. He had a specific goal that, thank God, a large part of it has been achieved. He recounted the stages he went through, the hardships, including long walks and climbing stairs, and how he found a major that suited his mental and physical abilities. This was in addition to commuting from Al-Muznab Governorate to the university city, covering 160 kilometers daily for the round trip. Then came the stage of his scholarship abroad, alone, facing the feeling of homesickness and the challenges of special needs and difficult studies. He set a great example for the students of determination, perseverance, and achieving goals.
The meeting included an accompanying exhibition to introduce the Deanship of Student Affairs and its departments to the students, which are the Student Fund Department, the Student Housing Department, the Innovation and Talent Center, the Guidance and Counseling Department, the Nutrition Department, Student Clubs, the Office for the Service of Children of Fallen Heroes, the Cultural, Social, and Theater Activities Department, the Sports Activities Department, the Scouts and Volunteer Club, and the External Scholarships Department.
On his part, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ajlan, gave a lecture on “The Beginning of the University Excellence Journey.” The lecture aimed to introduce the nature of the university stage, which is an extension of the academic stages the student has completed, but differs in its academic nature and systems from secondary education. It also covered academic systems, transfer between colleges, changing majors, academic assessment, and a comprehensive overview of the activities offered by the Deanship of Student Affairs.
At the end of the meeting, the supervisor of the smoking cessation program at the Qassim Health cluster and coordinator of the National Committee for Tobacco Control in the region, Hadi Al-Enezi, spoke about the university's smoking cessation clinic, which the program supervises. He introduced students to its purpose, as well as assisting those who wish to quit smoking by providing free treatment. He also informed them about the committee's role in cooperation with the university's Security and Safety Department to apprehend violators and smokers within the university campus, and to inform students of the penalties that will be imposed on violators to ensure a healthy environment within this educational institution.
