His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, patronized the ceremony of the second session of the "Qassim University Shield for Community Service" award. The event was organized by the Deanship of Community Service at the University on Tuesday, 26/3/1440 AH (November 13, 2018), at the Medical Clinics Theater in the University City in Al-Mulaida. The ceremony honored the winners from the colleges in the field of community service for the academic year 1438/1439 AH. During the ceremony, His Excellency also launched the "Volunteering Center" at the Deanship. The center aims to spread and deepen the culture of volunteering, create a database of volunteers, develop effective volunteer initiatives, model volunteer work, foster competition among colleges in the field of volunteer work, and establish indicators for volunteering within the university.
"Al-Daoud" stressed during his sponsorship of the ceremony that colleagues in the Deanship of Community Service have opened the field of participation to all university students and staff to engage in community service. He expressed his happiness at attending such events at the university, where everyone sees the fruits of the work and effort put forth by the university. He emphasized that this shield, awarded by the university in the name of community service, reflects the efforts of all students, faculty members, and officials from various colleges and deanships within the university. He extended his sincere thanks to everyone who participated in this pioneering competitive competition, which achieves part of the university's third main objective: community service.
Al-Dawood said, "No matter what we offer to society and this dear homeland, we will not be able to repay its due. We have a great responsibility at the university, with all its units, administrations, and colleges, because society is in dire need of these efforts. Undoubtedly, we were pleased with the large number of people who benefited from the services of Qassim University from all segments of society. However, society still needs us to offer it more than what we have offered. Perhaps colleagues will study the participation of all administrations, deanships, and colleges in this competition, as there is no excuse for any entity not to provide a service to society, and to evaluate the participation of everyone who provided a service to society.".
Al-Dawood pointed out that the enthusiasm, activity, and keenness of the university's students and staff to provide their community services to all segments of society have significantly contributed to the university's appearance in a manner befitting its status, despite the great burdens placed upon them. He emphasized that the burden of community service should not be limited only to colleges but to everyone at the university, as everyone must provide service to the community that expects more from the university than from any other entity. Praise be to God, we can excel and provide this through the vigor of our male and female employees and the capabilities, energies, and excellence they possess.
Affirming that this contribution will be a service to our nation and an elevation for it, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman – may God protect them. And with continuous encouragement from His Highness the Governor of the region and his deputy – may God protect them – who constantly encourage the university, especially regarding community service. He expressed his thanks to the community service for this competition and to everyone who contributed to it, asking God for success so that the university may be at the forefront of universities in community service, education, or scientific research.
For his part, Dean of the Deanship of Community Service, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Nusyan, affirmed that this award has had a clear impact in motivating colleges to present what they have in the best possible way for the service of the community, as everyone has witnessed quantitative and qualitative leaps in the number of participants.
