- 6.3: Water usage and care
- 6.4: Water reuse
- 6.5: Water in the community
SDG 6.3.1: Wastewater treatment
All sewage water inside the university is recycled and used, the recycled water for irrigation of all green plants around the university. During vacations, the amount of sewage water reduced due to reduced number of campus populations. Therefore, the water recycling facility collecting underground water and recycled it (desalination) and use it again for irrigation of green plants and trees. In addition, for rainfall water, there are several locations (open The sewage treatment plant of average capacity equals to 5250 m3/d & can be extended to a maximum capacity up to 13125 m3/d. It consists mainly of two treatment streams, each stream of 2625 m3/d capacity; using a very convenient treatment method called RBC (Rotating Biological Contractors). The wastewater treatment plant is designed to treat the wastewater that coming from the different facilities inside the university. Suspended solids and biodegradable organic matter are reduced through the treatment system to the acceptable limit for irrigation.
Qassim University obtains a patent for a water desalination system using a salt plant.
Qassim University has obtained a patent from the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property for its invention of a "system and method for desalinating water using a salt-bearing plant."
This system uses a closed biological system that can convert highly saline water into distilled fresh water. The system operates normally and can produce fresh water in commercial quantities.
Qassim University launches the 11th phase of the "Green Qassim Land" initiative and the "Let's Make It Green" initiative.
