The Second International Conference on Sustainability of Natural Resources, organized by Qassim University, represented by the College of Business and Economics, held five dialogue sessions to discuss the most important topics related to sustainability, with the participation of a number of local and international researchers and specialists, and representatives of the public and private sectors, at the King Abdulaziz Conference Center in the university city.
The first session was titled "An Academic Vision for Shaping a Sustainable Future", during which the speakers addressed several topics, including the importance of redefining sustainability in the academic context, sustainability as a comprehensive development framework, interdisciplinary academic approaches to address complex challenges in an integrated manner, as well as true interdisciplinary research, which is an essential entry point for producing applicable knowledge and able to link theory to developmental reality. The session also addressed the transformation of the role of universities towards impact-making and the need to accelerate the transition of universities from their traditional role as educational and research institutions to a developmental actor that integrates sustainability. The session reviewed the experiences of a number of national companies in employing sustainability as a strategic lever to create economic value and enhance competitiveness, and that sustainability is no longer limited to being an ethical commitment or social responsibility, but has become an integral part of business models and investment decisions, as it has a direct role in rationalizing the use of resources, increasing spending efficiency, and reducing operational and financial risks. The session also discussed the importance of integrating sustainability into operational processes and supply chains, which contributes to achieving concrete financial savings and improving productive efficiency and the importance of focusing on harmonizing
The third session discussed "Entrepreneurship and Sustainability: The speakers addressed the concept of sustainability in entrepreneurship as a key element in designing entrepreneurial projects and linking them to the environmental, economic and social impact, the fundamental differences between entrepreneurship and traditional business in dealing with sustainability, and reviewing real-life experiences in applying circular economy concepts, such as reducing waste, reusing and converting waste into economic value. The fourth session was entitled Promoting sustainability through cooperation between the public, private and academic sectors as an imperative to achieve sustainability in light of the complexity of environmental and economic challenges
