UQU Medical City succeeded in performing a rare and complex surgery on a 45-year-old patient who suffered from a tumor compressing the spinal cord at the level of the fifth cervical vertebra, resulting in obvious motor weakness in the left side of the upper and lower limbs.
The Medical City explained that after conducting accurate clinical assessments and advanced radiological examinations, through an integrated medical team working according to the highest approved medical standards, it was decided that urgent surgical intervention was necessary due to the sensitivity of the case and the danger to nerve functions, where the operation was performed by a surgical team that included Consultant Spine Surgeon Dr. Abdullah Al-Saeed, with the participation of Consultant Anesthesiologist Dr. Omar Al-Missned, in addition to the nursing assistant staff.
The surgery succeeded in completely removing the tumor while preserving the integrity of the spinal cord, and an improvement in the patient's motor condition was observed within a short period of time after the operation, enabling him to be discharged from the hospital in a good state of health.
This operation is part of a series of qualitative and advanced operations performed at Qassim University Medical City, confirming the readiness of the hospital and its ability to receive and treat complex cases in the field of spine surgery, reflecting the continuous development in the level of health services provided and the university's support for the specialized health sector.
