On Sunday, November 12, 2023, the University, represented by the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, held the activities of "Organic Food Day" by holding an educational exhibition with the participation of 12 governmental and private entities, with the aim of spreading the culture of organic food, introducing its types and benefits, and the impact of organic agriculture on sustainable development, in addition to a number of scientific lectures, in the presence of His Excellency the Vice Presidents of the University, which will continue for two days in the main lobby of the University City.
The event will include a number of scientific lectures presented by faculty members at the college and attended by a number of interested people, students and farmers under the following titles: Organic poultry production (ambition and hopes), organic farming to provide safe food, organic food and human health, and the reasons why we consume organic food.
His Excellency the Dean of the College, Prof. Saleh bin Sulaiman Al-Huwairini, explained that the agricultural sector is an important strategic sector that bears a huge burden in achieving food security and providing production requirements for other sectors, pointing out that within the framework of the university's constant endeavor to participate in events that serve the agricultural and industrial sectors, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine organized the Organic Food Day to introduce organic food, in addition to an exhibition on producers, exporters and manufacturers of organic food, with the aim of spreading the culture of organic food and providing farmers and traders of organic food with the necessary technical and logistical support to promote this agriculture
He added that the event includes the most important studies and technical aspects in the production of organic vegetables, fruits and meat and highlights their nutritional and health benefits. The college and the university also provide brochures and guidebooks on the scientific and technical principles related to organic food, and the university was keen through its exhibition to raise awareness of the many benefits of organic food, whether for health or for the environment, and highlight the importance of organic animal and poultry production due to the absence of chemical residues, toxins, antibiotics and hormones and their high content of nutrients that are beneficial to human health.
