UQU President sponsors "Digital Transformation Awareness Day"

His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Daoud, President of Qassim University, sponsored the «Digital Transformation Awareness Day» celebration, organized by the University Vice Presidency for Planning, Development, and Quality. The event was held on Monday morning, 12 Safar 1445 AH, in the presence of His Excellency the Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, Professor Dr. Khalid Bani Al-Harbi, His Excellency the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Sharikh, His Excellency the Vice President for Educational Affairs, Dr. Fahd bin Suleiman Al-Ahmed, and members of the University Council and its affiliates, at the main lobby of the university city.

His Excellency toured the emerging technologies exhibition accompanying the event, and viewed models of scientific labs in metaverse technology, in addition to a number of digital projects and services. These aim to spread awareness about the importance of digital transformation and its impact on the educational process, as well as to highlight the achievements made by the university in this field over the past five years. The exhibition also included a review of modern ideas and technologies applied at the university to achieve excellence in digital education, and a review of the transformation journey at Qassim University from building to innovation, according to the assessment of the Digital Government Authority.

Next, His Excellency the University President launched the university's virtual tour and digital twinning, which aims to enable beneficiaries to virtually visit the university, explore its facilities, utilize its services, and communicate with all its various departments.

For his part, the Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, Professor Dr. Khalid Bani Al-Harbi, explained that the university has given great attention to digital transformation through its strategic plans since the launch of automation processes, through electronic services, and up to full digital transformation processes, which were an integral part of the university's ten-year plan that was launched earlier and concluded in 2020. The journey continues through the university's second five-year strategic plan 2020-2025, which includes qualitative programs and projects that ensure the university moves forward with digital transformation processes according to specific goals. He emphasized that the university, under the leadership and follow-up of its esteemed president and through the Vice Presidency for Planning, Development, and Quality, has focused on digital transformation programs by launching three sub-strategic plans emanating from the university's strategic plan, in order to achieve comprehensive transformation in digital transformation processes, and in a way that guarantees the university's goals, which are based on important data, most notably the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Al-Harbi added: "Through this systematic work, the university was able to proceed with measuring digital transformation processes with the relevant authorities. In the fifth measurement, the university achieved a transformation rate of 32% as a start for it. The journey continued, and by God's grace and success, the university reached a measurement rate exceeding 90% in the tenth measurement, ranking 7th among all government sectors and entities, leading the education and training sector with merit after reaching the innovation stage in transformation processes.".

Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al-Bahli, the supervisor of digital transformation at the university, said: "These events aim to spread awareness about the importance of digital transformation and how it reflects on the educational and administrative processes, and to highlight the achievements the university has made in this field in the past few years to achieve the university's digital strategy in line with national trends, the national digital transformation strategy, and the information and communication technology sector strategy.".

He added, "We are proud of the university for becoming one of the top 10 government entities out of 317 entities in the Kingdom as one of the best entities that contributed to improving the overall maturity index for all government e-services. While our e-services stood at 108 services at the end of 2019, we have now jumped to 442 digital services provided to various segments of beneficiaries internally and externally, which has brought the university's branches closer together and eliminated the need to visit facilities. This undoubtedly demonstrates the impact and sustainability in the educational and administrative process.".
