UQU President launches the 11th phase of the "Qassim Green Earth" and "Let's Make it Green" initiatives

His Excellency Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, yesterday, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, launched the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Qassim Region, "Al-Qassim Land is Green," in its eleventh phase, and the initiative "Let's Make It Green" at the university city headquarters, in cooperation with the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Al-Qassim and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification.

A launch ceremony for the phase was held in the presence of His Excellency the Vice President of the University, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Saoudi, His Excellency the Vice President for Planning, Development, and Quality, Professor Dr. Khaled bin Bani Al-Harbi, His Excellency Engineer Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Rujaei, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture branch in Qassim region, and Eng. Badr bin Abdulrahman Al-Naqeedan, Director of the National Center for Vegetation Development branch in the region. This campaign aims to plant 30,000 saplings and 45,000 flowers, in addition to increasing the green space area to more than 160,000 square meters, which exceeded 70,000 trees during its previous phases.

On his part, the President's Assistant, Dr. Mohammed Al-Saoui, affirmed that the university is continuing its journey, which began several years ago with its participation in this campaign, pointing out that Al-Qassim is the land of growth, goodness, and agriculture, and the university can only be a part of this fabric. The university set afforestation as a goal several years ago and is strongly and resolutely moving towards it to increase green spaces and tree cover in all its locations and branches.

Al-Sa'oui said: The university city has changed dramatically over the past years and has taken on a new green look, which is improving day by day because the results of afforestation require patience and appear after years. It is hoped that the university – with the help and success of God – in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, will be adorned with its trees throughout its domains. He expressed his thanks to all employees of the General Administration of Services and Maintenance working on this project.

The university's participation in this initiative stems from its interest in developing vegetation cover and contributing to environmental protection and desertification reduction by planting trees and shrubs suitable for the region's climatic conditions. The university, represented by the General Administration of Services and Maintenance, has planted more than 70,000 trees from the first to the tenth phase, ensuring a variety of trees and shrubs, including palm trees, trees, and annual flowers, thereby increasing the vegetation cover by over 200%.

After that, His Excellency the University President planted the seedling to launch the campaign, with the participation of attendees. At the end of the ceremony, he honored the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Qassim region, and the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification in the region, in appreciation of their cooperation with the university in implementing the "Green Qassim Land" initiative and the "Let's Make It Green" initiative.
