The University, represented by the College of Engineering and the Center for Sustainable Development, will host the first two-day International Conference on Sustainability of Natural Resources "Sustainable Solid Waste Management" tomorrow, Tuesday, 8/3/1441 AH, with the aim of discussing the necessary measures to transform into sustainable food systems in which food waste is reduced, in addition to stimulating integration between partners from different disciplines to manage waste sustainably, as well as indicating the size of wasted natural and economic resources and estimating the environmental cost of waste.
Through the participation of a number of experts, academics and specialists in this field, the conference aims to discuss the results of the latest studies, research and scientific papers related to the sustainable management of solid waste, discuss ways to contribute to the preparation of a vision on sustainable solid waste management at the national and international levels, study opportunities to stimulate investment in the field of developing waste recycling technologies in the Kingdom, and study the obstacles to investment in waste processing industries, through several themes discussed by the conference, namely: Responsible Citizen, Valued Food, Attractive Investment, Resource Recovery, Integrated Solid Waste Management, and Environmental Protection.
This conference comes within the framework of the university's endeavor to contribute to the development of scientific solutions to some environmental issues that may affect the safety of the environment and the depletion of natural resources. The participants in the conference seek to reduce the per capita consumption rates in Saudi Arabia for some goods and services, which are among the highest rates globally, increasing the volume of solid waste generated and reducing the depletion of natural resources and their degradation due to high consumption rates.
The conference will also discuss the transfer and localization of modern international technologies in the field of waste management in accordance with the Kingdom's conditions, in addition to addressing the challenges arising from waste, which is the responsibility of every member of society, raising community awareness of the risks arising from waste generation, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among specialists in waste management and sustainable development, and encouraging initiatives aimed at improving the sustainable management of waste.
