The College of Dentistry at Qassim University has completed the seventh convoy of its pioneering program called the Volunteer Dental Convoys, which was held for five continuous days in the village of Al-Thamad in the Medina region, 650 km from Qassim, as an extension of the convoys' offerings within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The beneficiaries of the convoy, which was carried out by the students of the college during the days of the second semester vacation, reached more than 750 patients in five basic specialties, including root canal treatment, periodontal treatment, surgery, fillings, pediatric dentistry, and preventive dentistry, Through more than ten specialized clinics supervised by (60) volunteer students representing Qassim University and a number of students from Saudi universities, in addition to a group of doctors and consultants. The Taiba Doctors Association also participated in this convoy by providing all its equipment and medical vehicles, which included an equipped dental clinic, a primary examination clinic, and a car for transporting people with special needs. In order to complete all services, the convoy allowed the participation of students of human medicine at Qassim University to take medical history, pressure and sugar to avoid any complications that the patient may experience during treatment.
The convoy also dedicated an entire section to education and awareness, which targeted the village residents by explaining the most important wrong and harmful dietary habits and the correct ways to clean and care for teeth, in addition to applying fluoride to 250 children, which helps prevent cavities.
In an enriching gesture for the caravan, students of the College of Pharmacy at Qassim University participated in an accompanying awareness corner that included several information about medicines, their harms and methods of use.
It is noteworthy that the convoy was directly supervised by Dr. Mohammed Al-Muhaimid, Dean of the College of Dentistry at Qassim University, and headed by Mohammed Saleh Al-Daribi, a fifth-year student, with direct follow-up from Dr. Murad Al-Rashidi, head of the voluntary dental convoys program, and in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Department of Education.
