Student impresses visitors to the university's summer club by inventing a device to protect cars from theft

The university's summer club activities were not limited to cultural and recreational events and sports competitions, but also extended to encouraging talents in all scientific, athletic, and artistic fields.

Student Omar Ahmed Ali, from the College of Engineering in Unaizah, amazed visitors at the summer club at the closing of its activities last Monday, through the presentation of his invention, which won their admiration. It was a device that attaches to the outside of a car to protect it from theft, even if it is in operating mode with the driver's door open and no one nearby.

Regarding his interest in the automotive field, Omar, a future mechanical engineering student, says: The automotive field has continuously expanded and advanced since its invention to the present day and into the future in terms of its manufacturing and the advanced technology constantly being integrated into it. He emphasized that the automotive field has captured his attention since childhood, and there are still things it lacks that have not been invented yet. He pointed out that he has spent two years researching and programming potential updates.

Regarding the origin of his idea for the car protection device, the engineering student said that the idea came to him after a friend showed him a video that had gone viral, depicting the theft of a car with a woman inside. She tried to get out quickly, but couldn't exit completely, so she fell to the ground, and the thief ran her over to escape. This clip was the first thing that inspired him to do something to prevent such bad acts, leading him to the idea of creating an electronic device that automatically activates upon parking, and that the car owner can turn on and off.

The invention is characterized by its ability to prevent car theft in all situations, especially when the car is running. Moreover, even in situations of being under duress with the car running, no one other than the vehicle's owner can move it from its place. Thus, the owner can leave it, move away, secure themselves, and report to the competent authorities to apprehend the thief, who will be utterly bewildered by their inability to complete the car theft.

The inventor added that its protection system can immobilize the vehicle, and it won't move an inch from its spot unless the owner arrives. He can also add other people to drive it, such as relatives, friends, and others. The invention works by converting the vehicle into a personal account that can only be accessed by its driver or by those they authorize.

Student "Omar" expressed his hope that in the future he will not see people who cannot defend themselves in their weakest moments while their vehicles are being stolen.
