Engineer Saleh Al-Dhalei, Director of the Services and Maintenance Department at the university, revealed the university's intention to afforest and cultivate the parking lots of male and female students in the university city, due to the environmental and health benefits and cost savings for the university, as the project started with planting the parking lots of the College of Shari'ah as a first phase, with more than 500 different trees, including: "Bazromia, Ficus and Ficus", and the rest of the colleges' parking lots are in the process of being completed.
He pointed out that an irrigation network has been implemented for the tree troughs to ensure the continuity of water for this project, and trees have been planted on Road (101) at the university and nearby sites with an area of 10,000 meters and some sites are being completed, where some cosmetic work is being done, such as: He added that 400 palm trees have been planted near the gymnasium and a number of sites and a number of roads are being completed, and 3000 citrus trees of "lemons, oranges and tangerines" have been secured to be planted near the administrative building and some colleges.
He added that a contractor has been assigned to drill a well for the gymnasium and housing in order to provide water for them and the green spaces, as the university seeks to expand its green spaces and increase the rate of afforestation and interest in it continuously. This comes due to the continuous support we receive from His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, UQU President, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Saawi, UQU Vice President, for the Services and Maintenance Department to implement its work and the remarkable interest in developing the agricultural field at the university.
