Out of keenness to finish the university's projects on time, the university decided to withdraw the conference center project in the university city in Al-Malida, which is valued at 200 million riyals due to repeated delays in its delivery according to the contract concluded by the university with one of the contractors, as the university developed several solutions to proceed with the project, which was handed over to the contractor 6 years ago, in which the completion rate reached 41%, which consists of five buildings with a total area of more than 55 thousand square meters, and with the contractor's defaults and lack of completion, the project was withdrawn.
The university has used several solutions to urge late and defaulting contractors to accelerate the wheel of completion and keep up with the specified period of implementation in the contracts, and has been able to cooperate with most contractors to bring the projects to safety, but there are still some who did not respond to these solutions and did not invest in the facilities granted to them by the university, which exposes them to withdrawal of projects according to the system.
In this context, the university affirms that it closely follows up all stalled projects through the Higher Committee for Project Follow-up headed by Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, as well as projects that were not delivered on time, and will try hard to develop appropriate solutions, and if they continue to stall, they will be withdrawn from the laggard implementers.
It is noteworthy that the university had previously withdrawn projects worth more than 58 million riyals due to delays in implementation, after the UQU President approved the recommendations of the Standing Committee for Examining Bids, and the university warned a number of contractors who were found to have observations in the low percentage of completion, and the last solution the university had with a number of contractors was to withdraw projects from them after a number of warnings and communications and after proving their lack of seriousness, projects were withdrawn from them in accordance with Article (53) of the Government Tenders and Procurement Law (paragraph (b)).
