Qassim University President Honors Winners of Scientific Excellence

His Excellency the President of Qassim University, Prof. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Hamoudi, honored the winners of the Sixth Annual Scientific Excellence Awards (1433 AH – 2012 AD), organized by the Deanship of Scientific Research, represented by the Secretariat of the Scientific Excellence Awards, on Tuesday, June 13, 1434 AH, in the auditorium (A) in the University Administration Building, in the presence of university vice presidents, deans, and faculty members. The ceremony began with verses from the Holy Quran, after which His Excellency Prof. Yusuf bin Abdullah Al-Saleem, Dean of Scientific Research and Secretary-General of the Excellence Awards, delivered a speech in which he noted that the award had gone through many stages from its inception as an idea until it became a tangible reality, and that nominations for the Scientific Excellence Awards had been announced in nine different fields. He added that after an initial review, the committee had excluded research that did not meet the nomination requirements and criteria, and that judges from all continents of the world had been consulted. Dr. Walid bin Ibrahim Al-Obaiki, Vice Dean for Scientific Research, then announced the winners and presented the awards. The Outstanding Research Award in Theoretical Sciences was awarded to Dr. Abdullah Abdulrahman Al-Masnad, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the College of Arabic Language and Social Studies. The Award for Outstanding Research in the Field of Applied Sciences was shared equally by Dr. Alaa Salah Abdulhamid Ibrahim, Associate Professor in the Department of Scientific Materials at the Deanship of Educational Services, and Dr. Ahmed Fathi Mohamed Ahmed, Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Arij Ali Hamad Al-Mudayan of the Department of Geography at the College of Arabic Language and Social Studies received the Excellence Award for the best master’s thesis awarded by the university in the field of theoretical sciences, Mohammed Abdulrahman Qasim Al-Dakhil of the Department of Plant Production and Protection at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine received the Excellence Award for the best master’s thesis awarded by the university in the applied sciences, while Dr. Asya Muhammad Salih Al-Asil, Assistant Professor in the Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, received the Excellence Award for the best doctoral dissertation awarded by the university in the field of theoretical sciences. Dr. Walid bin Ibrahim Al-Obaiki explained that the Outstanding Department Award and the Outstanding Researcher Award in the fields of theoretical and applied sciences were withheld because the submitted works did not meet the award’s standards, and the Excellence Award for the best doctoral dissertation awarded by the university in the field of applied sciences was not awarded as no one applied for it.
