The university won two medals (silver and bronze) at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, among more than 1000 participating inventions from 40 countries around the world, adding to a series of achievements and successes achieved by the university at the local and international levels. The silver medal was awarded to the invention "A system and method for desalination of water using a saline plant", presented by a research team from the College of Agriculture and Food, led by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Bani Al-Harbi, with the participation of Dr. Mokdad Rabhi and Dr. Ahmed Al-Zuhairi.
This invention can produce fresh water in commercial quantities through a closed biological system that can convert highly saline water into distilled fresh water so that the system works naturally and for a long period of time without the need for any intervention, which helps in solving the dilemma of desalination sustainably and using solar energy without the need for other energies, as this innovation opens a new window in scientific research for a method of desalination of highly saline water with an environmentally friendly and economically inexpensive mechanism.
The bronze medal was awarded to the invention "A method for preparing excipients from date residues", presented by a research team led by Dr. Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Mandaraj, with the participation of Dr. Thamer Ibrahim Rajab and Dr. Wael Abdul Hafeez Shindi, which helps in the optimal exploitation of date residues after extracting the active substances from them, to produce excipients for nano-sized pharmaceutical tablets that represent a new technology in this pharmaceutical field.
It is noteworthy that the university is participating in the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions through a pavilion that highlights its innovation system with a number of inventions and innovations at the university, as part of the Ministry of Education's initiative to enhance the international presence of Saudi universities to achieve the national goals, where the university's participation aims to highlight its role in supporting the innovation and entrepreneurship system, as well as showcasing a number of inventions and innovations that compete for advanced positions internationally.
