His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, received the university's honor for achieving the first place in the education and training sector for the second year in a row, and achieving the "creativity" stage in measuring the government's digital transformation for 2023, during the Digital Government Forum, in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, and the Minister of Health, on Wednesday, December 20, in Riyadh, as this new achievement comes within the framework of the university's efforts to keep pace with the strategic directions of the digital government.
During the forum, the Digital Government Authority announced the results of measuring the Digital Transformation Index 2023 for more than 200 government entities from various sectors, which is concerned with evaluating and diagnosing the status of the entities and following up on the development of their digital transformation journey through several key indicators, which included the criteria derived from royal orders, cabinet decisions and circulars, which included 52 criteria, and digital transformation criteria, which included 73 criteria, by which the extent of government entities' commitment to applying these criteria and levels of commitment to their implementation are measured, sorting the results of measuring these indicators into 5 stages (innovation, integration, optimization, availability, construction), and the results of the University of
In addition, the university received the NORA certificate of accreditation for distinguished government entities from the Digital Government Authority, which was received by the UQU President during the forum from the Governor of the Authority, in recognition of the university's excellence in applying the standards of the institutional structure that contributes to accelerating the digital transformation process.
The university also came among the best performing government entities in the efficiency of websites and digital content 2023, and was honored by His Excellency Engineer Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Suwaiyan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority, during the forum, which was received by Dr. Saleh Al-Bahli, Dean of the Deanship of Information Technology, in Riyadh.
During the forum, UQU President witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the university and the Digital Government Authority, signed by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al-Saawi, UQU Vice President, and His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al-Faifi, Deputy Governor of the Authority for Investment and Government Excellence, to enhance joint cooperation in the field of free and open source software by implementing specialized training programs and preparing specialized academic programs.
The agreement stipulates the areas of cooperation between the two parties, which include the inclusion of open source software in university courses, forming joint research groups to produce valuable scientific research and products, promoting talents in the field of open source software, supporting graduation project ideas and utilizing them in the labor market, supporting open source software clubs and spreading its culture in the university, cooperative training in the open source software industry, and providing training opportunities within government and private institutions and bodies.
