A specialized medical team at the University Medical City, for the first time in the Qassim region, performed a successful complex surgery on a patient suffering from severe hearing loss and multiple ear issues. The six-hour operation was performed with great care by the medical team led by Dr. Sultan Al-Enezi, Consultant of ENT Surgery, Nerves of the Ear and Cochlear Implants, and Dr. Mohammed Aba Al-Khail, Consultant and Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Medical Simulation, and Medical Director. ENT, neurotology and cochlear implants, and Dr. Mohammed Aba Al-Khail, Consultant and Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Medical Simulation and Medical Director, during the operation, the affected eardrum was grafted, the temporal bone was cleaned of decay with high precision, the damaged skull base was repaired and the Eustachian tube was expanded to improve the ventilation and function of the ear.
The 26-year-old patient was suffering from severe ear pain, in addition to facial nerve damage that caused facial movement issues, and after multiple medical examinations, the issue was found to be limited to a narrow Eustachian tube (the channel connecting the ear and nose), a perforated eardrum, and decay in the ear bone and temple bone. The advanced medical devices and equipment available in the medical city contributed to the accurate examinations by the medical team and the successful conduct of the surgical procedure.
It is worth noting that this surgery is the first of its kind to be performed in the Qassim region, and represents an important addition to the medical services available in the region, and reflects the great efforts made by the university in upgrading its health services through the medical city. It is hoped that this operation will serve as a model for future operations and contribute to improving the quality of life for patients suffering from hearing and ear issues.
