The university entered for the first time in the 2023 Shanghai World University Ranking, among the top 1000 international universities, in continuation of the university's march in excellence and research production, as the university ranked in the 801-900 category globally in the ranking.
This achievement comes as a result of the unlimited support provided by the wise leadership - may Allah protect it - for research, development and innovation at the level of the Kingdom, and the work carried out by the university in order to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom's vision, including improving its ranking in the global rankings in line with the university's orientation and strategy to support the research, innovation and creativity sector.
The Shanghai ranking is known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), which is the oldest and most prestigious of all international ranking bodies. It is based on the performance of universities in scientific research according to several criteria, including the quality of education, faculty efficiency, scientific research outputs, and the size of the institution.
This year, about 2,500 international universities were ranked, after which only the universities that ranked in the top 1,000 globally were announced, based on the indicators of the ranking body, which is considered the oldest and most prestigious among all international ranking bodies.
The result of the ranking is based on many factors, including the level of scientific research in universities, citation rates, scientific excellence and innovation in peer-reviewed scientific publication lists, especially Clarivate, as well as the quality and excellence of the educational staff and employees of these universities in science and research, and winning a number of international awards and benefits.
The Shanghai ranking is considered an independent ranking in the mechanisms of measuring performance indicators, as it carries out the measurement process itself through official bodies independent of universities, including international publishing and indexing bodies and other independent bodies related to university education, and the Shanghai ranking is one of the three most important international ranking bodies, in addition to QS and Times, in which the university has achieved advanced ranks during the last five years.
