On Monday, March 27, 2023, His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Qassim Region, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on "One Million Volunteer Hours Campaign" between the University, the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Qassim Region, and the National Center for Vegetation Development and Desertification Control in Qassim, in the presence of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, where the agreement was signed by Dr. Mohammed Al-Saawi, Vice President of the University, and the Director of the branch of Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Qassim Region, Eng.
This memorandum is based on the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, in line with the launch of His Highness the Crown Prince (may Allah protect him) of the "Green Saudi Arabia" initiative and in continuation of the successes of the initiative of His Highness the Emir of Qassim Region "Qassim Green Land". This partnership aims to enhance the achievement of these objectives and increase the percentage of vegetation cover, afforestation, environmental values and increase the rate of community volunteering, through mechanisms and plans that ensure the achievement of the goals set through environmental initiatives, in addition to the participation of volunteer teams and university employees and students in planting and improving vegetation cover in national parks and university facilities.
He stressed the importance of involving all government sectors and volunteer teams to make this initiative comprehensive for all those wishing to work voluntarily to achieve the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, noting the efforts achieved in promoting the planting and afforestation of national parks and university campuses, as well as cleaning campaigns for the wild parks in the region, in order to achieve one million volunteer hours for university employees.
H.H. Prince Faisal bin Meshal emphasized that this partnership is one of the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and comes in line with the "Saudi Green" initiative and continues the successes of the "Qassim Green Land" initiative, and promotes the realization of environmental goals and values and raises the percentage of vegetation cover and afforestation in the Qassim region.
This memorandum aims to enhance joint cooperation between the two parties; achieve integration and unify efforts, in order to achieve mutual benefits by activating voluntary work in the environmental sector through the "We Make It Green" initiative to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Through this agreement, the university and the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the region seek to activate means of cooperation, believing that effective cooperation towards achieving the message of community partnership and mutual benefits is a national responsibility that combines the efforts of all in order to develop human and social development and achieve the country's vision to reach a knowledgeable and scientifically productive society.
