His Excellency the President of the University praised the holding of this qualitative international conference to develop Arabic language skills among university students, with the participation of a group of distinguished professors from across the Arab world to discuss several important topics related to our language and its skills, which contributes to building effective concepts to develop Arabic language skills among university students, and will benefit those interested in university education everywhere.
He thanked the participants in the conference and the staff of the College of Arabic Language and Social Studies, represented by the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, for the efforts exerted in implementing this important event, asking Allah to make it a successful conference in its papers, results and recommendations.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Lahim, Dean of the College of Western Language and Social Studies, said: Talking about the Arabic language and its status is an endless sea, because it is related to the human being, who is the center of influence and impact, according to the environment in which he grew up, and the factors that shaped his linguistic pattern, in terms of language levels in terms of sound, morphology, syntax, grammar and semantics.
Al-Lahim explained that the idea of international conferences at the college started with a series of regular ideas. The first conference was on the Arabic language in general education curricula, the second on the Arabic language in universities between heritage and modernity, and the third on the linguistic and literary heritage in the light of modern curricula. This fourth conference comes to discuss an issue that is not specific to the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, but goes beyond it to other colleges that take language requirements, as it discusses developing Arabic language skills for students at the university level.
The Dean of the College pointed out that dozens of scientific papers from multiple countries were submitted to the conference, but due to the circumstances of the time and time of the conference, and after arbitration of the scientific works, the most important scientific papers that are closely related to the conference and its themes were selected, stressing that the conference is attended by multiple universities from inside and outside the Kingdom, and seeks to reach a concept, idea or vision that will be a building block for projects that advance the Arabic language in an era when it needs a lot of effort from its masters and protectors.
Al-Lahim thanked the university administration, led by His Excellency Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, President of the University, who blessed this conference since it was an idea. He also thanked the guests of this conference who participated with their scientific papers, the working committees of the conference, headed by the scientific committee, the entities that participated in the preparation of this conference, and the colleagues who followed up on all the research and arbitration related to this conference.
The conference seeks to study the reality of Arabic language skills at all levels in Arab universities in order to achieve several objectives, including: Achieving harmonization between outputs and the labor market, knowing the reality of student achievement of Arabic language skills, identifying the causes and factors affecting the level of student achievement of these skills, searching for effective ways to develop their skills among students, in addition to addressing the issue of measuring the acquisition of language skills by students.
The conference includes four sessions dealing with several themes: successful experiences in teaching language skills, aligning the acquired language skills with the labor market, the efficiency of building language skills literature, and the effectiveness of building tests in measuring and achieving outcomes, with the participation of 15 researchers.
