Qassim University Statement
Qassim University explains that at exactly 2:45 pm today, Monday, 8/7/1436 AH, the roof of part of the conference center building project (under construction) at the University City in Al-Malida collapsed while pouring the reinforced concrete roof of a circle with a diameter of 27 m in one of the parts of the project.
According to the project contractor's statistics, it is estimated that 15 workers are missing and expected to be found under the rubble The Projects and Maintenance Department at the university and the concerned authorities (Civil Defense, Red Crescent, Health Affairs) responded to the incident and until the preparation of this statement, 6 injured workers were extracted and transferred to hospitals to follow up their health condition and check on them, while 7 bodies of Asian workers and an Egyptian engineer were extracted, and 2 workers are still missing as of the preparation of this statement, and work is still ongoing to search for them by the Civil Defense through specialized technical teams.
The university offers sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the recovery of the injured.
His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Qassim, directed the formation of an urgent committee to discuss the collapse of part of the conference building at Qassim University, consisting of "the Emirate of the region, Qassim University, Civil Defense and Health Affairs" and submit an urgent report to His Highness.
This came during HH The Amir's visit to the incident, where His Excellency Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Hamoudi, President of the University, briefed him on the collapsed part of the building, and followed the developments of the events and the operations of extracting workers from under the rubble.
This was stated by the University Vice President for Educational Affairs and Spokesperson, Prof. Dr. Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Tami.
