UQU President inaugurates the Saudi International Medical Education Conference on Tuesday

His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Hamoudi, will sponsor tomorrow evening, Tuesday, the opening ceremony of the Saudi International Medical Education Conference 2014, organized by the College of Medicine at Qassim University in cooperation with the Saudi Society for Medical Education at King Khalid Civilization Center in Buraydah, from 2 to 5 Safar 1436 A.H. The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Qassim University and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Dr. Hani Al-Shubaili, explained that the activities of the workshops will be launched on Monday morning, which is concerned with presenting scientific research and scientific contributions on the latest developments in the field of medical education, noting that a group of experts and researchers working in the field of medical education from North America, Europe, Australia and the Gulf region will participate in the presentation of these contributions, pointing out that the conference is the official and most important forum for academics, specialists and those interested in the field of medical education in the region. Dr. Al-Shubaili explained that the forum has been accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties with (30) hours of continuing medical education for participants.

In the same context, the head of the scientific committee of the conference, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Ghasham, said that the number of scientific contributions and research papers reached (258) scientific papers from (35) countries from different parts of the world,

The head of the scientific committee added that the conference will witness the participation of (23) international speakers in addition to (11) speakers from within the Kingdom, pointing out that (14) workshops will be held on the sidelines of the conference in addition to discussing (109) posters and presenting (37) oral participation.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghasham pointed out that the Saudi International Conference on Medical Education 2014 will include several themes and theses, including a presentation of different medical curricula in medical schools, medical education curricula with modern trends, medical teaching and learning methods, in addition to different ways to evaluate the medical student, modern teaching techniques, professional and educational growth of faculty members, and various other themes.

The head of the scientific committee emphasized that the conference seeks through its various activities and through the participation of a group of international medical education experts to make a qualitative leap in the field of medical education in the Kingdom and to achieve a clear improvement in medical education curricula and outputs, respond to the needs of health services at the national and regional level and achieve excellence at the international level, noting that achieving these goals comes through access to modern methods and concepts that have been circulated and proven by modern scientific research and approved in the field of medical education, including seeking to introduce these concepts and methods in medical education curricula at all levels. Al-Ghasham pointed out the importance of emphasizing the importance of quality in medical colleges and verifying the availability of scientifically compatible performance indicators locally and internationally to ensure the quality and excellence of graduates of medical colleges in the Kingdom and provide the labor market with competencies and distinguished cadres as one of the means that can be used to face the acute shortage of Saudi doctors, stressing the conference's interest in research in the field of medical education and the need to direct research in medical colleges to this type of research to reach results commensurate with the reality and needs of Saudi society in order to shape the future of medical education in the Kingdom and to adopt this type of research for scientific promotion purposes.
