The university launched the new name of the university's central library, which will bear the name "Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Library", on Monday, 2/3/1442 AH, during a ceremony held on this occasion in the main lobby of the university city in the presence and patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud, Emir of Qassim region, in the presence and patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud.
This naming came after the University Council had the honor of approving that this scientific and knowledge edifice be adorned with the name of His Highness, in recognition of his role, interest and continuous support for all university activities and events, his care and support for the university, and his continuous encouragement of the university's achievements in the educational process, scientific research and community service.
In his speech during the ceremony, UQU President Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood said: "The university was honored by the presence of His Highness the Emir of the region and his participation and continuous support for many of its educational and developmental events, which reflected positively on its progress, reaching advanced positions in the ladder of university education at the local and international levels.
He added: He added: "It is a source of happiness and pleasure that we celebrate on this day a different and distinctive occasion that came as an expression of the University Council's appreciation and gratitude to His Highness the Emir of Qassim for the attention, support, encouragement and continuous stimulation he gives to it.
Al-Dawood pointed out that the university has chosen that the symbolic recognition of His Highness the Emir of the region should be related to the field he is known for, as His Highness is closely associated with culture, science and knowledge, and his continuous relationship with the academic and knowledge field. Hence, the members of the University Council decided that the university's central library should bear the name of His Highness, in recognition and appreciation of his blessed efforts to support all activities related to culture, reading and knowledge in the Qassim region and beyond, in addition to his activity in writing, publishing, and scientific research in general.
On behalf of the members of the University Council, professors, employees, students and staff, Al-Dawood extended his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Emir of Qassim for his generous approval to name the university's central library "Prince Dr. Faisal bin Meshal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Library", noting that it is a rich and diverse library, and is one of the largest university libraries in our dear country, and seeks to provide various information sources that meet the needs of beneficiaries in line with the requirements of the times, and develop the educational and research performance at the university in line with its outstanding role in serving the community.
The President of Qassim University explained that this library contains more than three hundred thousand titles in various sciences and disciplines, in addition to university theses, original manuscripts and refereed periodicals. Thirty-four branch libraries in the university colleges spread across the region, and subscriptions to the Saudi Digital Library, which provides more than one hundred and fifty international and Arabic information bases.
After that, the UQU President announced the gift of His Highness the Emir of the region to the library, which came in the form of 50 computers to help library patrons in research, expressing sincere thanks and appreciation to His Highness for his efforts and gifts to the university, and stressing that the library is honored by his approval of the naming and looks forward to a bright future with its patrons and holdings. He prayed to Allah Almighty to guide and protect His Highness, and to help us all to serve science and its people, and to contribute to achieving the vision of our wise government under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince, may Allah protect them, of scientific progress and cognitive development for this blessed nation, and we ask Him to continue the blessings of security and safety, knowledge and tranquility.
During the ceremony, His Highness the Emir of the region and the accompanying delegation toured the building of the central library. He also watched a visual film produced by the General Administration of Media and Communication at the university, about the establishment of the library in 1425 AH corresponding to 2004 AD after the issuance of the royal approval to establish the Deanship of Library Affairs at the university, when the first task of the emerging deanship was to merge the libraries at the university under one umbrella, the central library, and the film showed that since its inception until now the library has increased the number of books and information sources, reaching the beginning of this year more than three hundred and five thousand titles in various sciences and disciplines, in addition to a group of
The central library shares the Saudi Digital Library, allowing university employees to access the digital library website and benefit from more than 446,000 books and 150 international and Arabic databases with full texts of millions of academic articles, in addition to more than five million university theses and 460,000 multimedia resources ranging from images to scientific films in various disciplines.
The library consists of two floors. The first floor contains a special section for practical books and references, rooms for individual and group research study, reading and reading rooms, research devices, self-lending devices, and private libraries donated to the university, and the second floor includes a section for university theses, a hall for scientific periodicals, and reading rooms The Central Library also provides the service of lending books and references to university students, faculty members, employees, and community members. Thirty-four branch libraries distributed to the different colleges in the region, in addition to a large library in the female students' department at the main headquarters of the university.
The average number of visitors to the Central Library on a university day is between 400 and 500 beneficiaries, which the library receives twelve hours a day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The number of books and references loaned to beneficiaries during the academic year is estimated at more than 8,000 books and references in various journals that serve faculty members, researchers and students, in addition to 200,000 accesses to electronic information databases for research in scientific journals and periodicals, and 70,000 for scientific books and references.
