The university, represented by the College of Education, presented a workshop entitled "Digital Media and the Media Role of the Teacher", as part of the university's activities in conjunction with the International Teachers' Day, which is held by the College of Education over two days, under the slogan "Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future" online.
The workshop, which was presented by Mr. Fahad bin Waza'a bin Noumah, Supervisor of the University's Media and Communication Department, addressed a number of topics, including: Explaining the concept of media and digital media, the role of the teacher in the communication and media process, ways of dealing with the student in light of communication and media developments, and educational and communication platforms and teachers' interaction with them.
During the workshop, Bin Nomeh emphasized that the teacher is the main part of the education process, and has the responsibility of transferring cultures and trends, through his direct association with age groups ranging from 7 years to 18 years, as the teacher spends many hours with the student, which creates a kind of communication between them that allows the teacher to influence the student and shape his personality.
He explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has prioritized the teacher in Vision 2030, because it believes in the role of the teacher in society and its direct impact on it, indicating that the year of Corona is the year of education and the teacher, as it has been proven to everyone that the role of the teacher is educational, educational, and that the teacher performs tasks greater than those of the family, stressing the need for the teacher to be fully aware of the media.
Regarding the media role of the teacher, he said: He emphasized that many of the messages issued by the student need a great understanding, especially from the teacher, because the student's ideas and orientations are formed in these stages, and the school is the basis and has the largest role, and teachers in our country have proven to everyone that they were up to a great deal of responsibility, after the responsibility changed due to the Corona pandemic and the role was on the family to play the role that the teacher used to play.
During the workshop, he talked about the main feature of the current era with the technological revolution, which is the communication and interactive process aimed at transferring information from one person to another to create a kind of mutual understanding and harmony between them, and explained the elements of communication, namely: The sender, receiver, medium, content, and echo, and provided a definition of the media, which is based on the dissemination of facts, news, ideas and opinions through various media, and the act of sending or telling, noting its role in broadcasting, giving and exchanging information, whether audible or visual in words and sentences or in signs, images and symbols.
He stressed that we need a conscious teacher in dealing with social media and we need to realize that the media is about providing the public with correct information or clear facts, and it is also a communication activity, whose components are the source of information, the media message, the media means that convey messages, the audience of recipients and receivers of the media message and the media impact, as the media is mostly characterized by honesty, accuracy, candor, presentation of established facts and correct news, and aims to explain, simplify and clarify facts and realities, and its importance increases as society becomes more complex, civilization progresses and touching rises
Bin Nomeh also addressed the definition of digital media, which is the interactive communication activity aimed at disseminating news and various information with text, sound and image through digital systems and their means, to influence the behavior of the audience, and reviewed the General Authority for Statistics statistic that revealed that 98,43% of Saudi youth use social networking sites, in addition to reviewing the 5 most popular platforms used on social media, and introducing the platforms that are classified as social and may serve the educational and media aspect, after that the door was opened for questions and answers to the attendees.
