The University, represented by the University Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research and the University Innovation and Intellectual Property Center, signed a service agreement on Monday, 11/2/1442 AH, regarding the establishment of intellectual property support centers with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, where the agreement was signed remotely by Prof. Ahmed Al-Turki, UQU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, along with the Executive Vice President for Intellectual Property Policies and Partnerships, Engineer Sami bin Ali Al-Sudais, on behalf of the University.
The agreement aims to join the national network of intellectual property support centers at the Authority, through which mechanisms are implemented to strengthen and support the foundations of national innovation, enable access and benefit from technical and scientific expertise, provide assistance in searching and analyzing intellectual and technical property databases to meet technical and business needs, in addition to raising knowledge of the advantages of intellectual property rights in general and patent information in particular.
This agreement also seeks to define the procedures for hosting intellectual property support centers, to ensure that beneficiaries have access to services tailored to their technical and information needs through the establishment of a national network of intellectual property support centers in the hosting entities, including the second party to this agreement, and this agreement also defines the services and tasks of the network of intellectual property support centers, its composition and organization, and the conditions governing its implementation and management.
The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) works to regulate, support, develop, nurture, protect and promote the fields of intellectual property in the Kingdom in accordance with international best practices, and the establishment of the national network of intellectual property support centers is part of the fulfillment of the terms of reference and tasks of the Authority to provide information related to intellectual property rights and make it available to the public, raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property and the protection of intellectual property rights, by disseminating technical data on intellectual property rights in industry, business and academia sectors, and raising awareness about the appropriate use of intellectual property as a tool to encourage the development of intellectual property.
The network of intellectual property support centers contributes to supporting the development of institutions by developing the results of technical research, and the network of intellectual property support centers provides many services to its beneficiaries: Assisting in search services in intellectual property databases and technical information while respecting confidentiality of information, as well as identifying the issues of technical institutions and research topics within universities and research institutes, providing information on the latest scientific findings in various technical fields, participating in awareness-raising activities on intellectual property rights, participating in the development of research results, and identifying opportunities to support technology transfer efforts.
For his part, the UQU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, on behalf of His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, and the staff of the university, extended his thanks and gratitude to the Authority for its cooperation with the university and other interested parties on the subject of research and intellectual property, pointing out that this has had a great impact in deepening this meaning and consolidating the concept of culture related to intellectual property, noting that the university has a specialized center, the Innovation and Intellectual Property Center, whose first goal is to spread the culture related to intellectual property and consolidate its meaning and give it sufficient sanctity, attention and respect in line with
Al-Turki added that the university has taken important steps in this field to support intellectual property and pay attention to the courses organized by the Authority and the agreements it concludes with universities, expressing his appreciation and pride in launching this agreement, which is in this sense, including the articles that will be a basic building block in spreading the culture related to intellectual property, supporting patents and supporting the transformation of ideas into advanced products that contribute to the knowledge economy in our dear homeland.
