On Wednesday, 11/24/1441 A.H., the University, represented by the Digital Manufacturing Laboratory at the College of Engineering, delivered the first batch of face shields manufactured by the lab to Buraydah Central Hospital as part of the university's efforts to support doctors and health practitioners in the region during the Corona pandemic.
The Digital Fabrication Lab consists of three main sections: 3D printing, CNC machining, and electronics and control, where the lab has published three scientific papers, two in ISI and one in Scopus.
Dr. Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Ayyidi, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Supervisor of the Digital Manufacturing Lab at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, explained that the lab used 3D printing technology to print the face shield, where it designed two different models of face shields. The models were presented to the doctors and hospital management to express their opinion and make the necessary adjustments that suit the use of the health staff, after which the designs were approved and the production line was started to create the face shield, where the first batch was delivered to the hospital and work is currently underway to prepare the numbers required by Buraydah Central Hospital.
He added that the Digital Fabrication Lab has trained more than 120 university students and contributed to the implementation of more than fifty projects for university students, as the lab has produced nearly 3000 parts since its establishment (2019), in addition to the implementation of four models of surgical operations in lower dental jaw and cheek and skull fracture reconstruction
