13311 - University organizes "Tawasul" forum for media and communication in educational institutions to develop media work

The first Media and Communication Forum in Educational Institutions, «Tawasul,» will be launched this month, taking place over two days on December 18-19, 2019, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh. The forum will be attended by universities and education departments. The conference seeks to discuss the media and communication roles in educational institutions in the Kingdom within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, and the extent to which these roles align with successful practices that establish effective media and communication work serving educational and youth institutions and society as a whole. It also aims to enhance the role of media and communication departments in these institutions in activating their status and influence on the educational and pedagogical mission.

 

The university, represented by the General Administration of Media and Communication, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, represented by its General Administration of Media and Communication, is organizing the forum. The forum aims to discuss the work of media administrations in educational sectors in relation to events, situations, and crises, and how to address them through media and communication. It also aims to discuss the roles of media colleges and departments in the Kingdom in developing the media performance of educational institutions, in addition to introducing the reality of university newspapers and the communication and media roles assigned to them in addressing the youth generation and achieving their Vision 2030. Furthermore, it will cover professional ethics and media codes of honor, and their role in positively or negatively influencing these institutions. Finally, it will showcase media experiences in educational institutions through the exhibition accompanying the forum.

 

His Excellency the President of the University, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Dawood, explained that this forum comes as an initiative from the university in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, to study the state of communication and media in educational institutions, and to identify their current and expected roles, in a way that contributes to their achievement of the goals of Saudi society in light of Vision 2030. He pointed out that the roles are shared and integrated between communication and media tools on the one hand, and educational and pedagogical institutions on the other, to form an integrated system as one of the social upbringing institutions for individuals in society.

 

The contemporary Saudi society is experiencing an exceptional development phase driven by Vision 2030. This vision is based on activating the community's multiple strengths and transforming its goals into tangible reality. In light of this situation, media institutions and educational institutions, as the largest institutions with the ability to communicate with all segments of Saudi society, play a crucial role in achieving the vision's objectives and assisting society in this transformation with minimal negative repercussions.

 

Al-Dawood added that the forum targets media and public relations officials in educational institutions in the Kingdom, academics and postgraduate students in media departments and faculties at Saudi universities, in addition to media professionals interested in educational and pedagogical issues, and staff of media departments in educational institutions.

 

"Al-Dawood" pointed out that the forum will include several themes related to developing journalistic and media work in educational institutions, including defining the role of media in supporting the educational message, media planning for these institutions, and media management. In addition to discussing crises within them, the mutual roles between media and educational institutions, as well as the role of professionalism and training in university newspapers, and an introduction to the media experiences of Saudi universities.
