The university, represented by the College of Engineering and the Center for Sustainable Development, will host tomorrow, Tuesday, corresponding to 3/8/1441 AH, for two days, the First International Conference on Natural Resource Sustainability: "Sustainable Management of Solid Waste." The goal is to discuss the necessary measures to transition to sustainable food systems with reduced loss and food waste, as well as to encourage integration among partners from different specializations for sustainable waste management. It also aims to demonstrate the volume of wasted natural and economic resources and estimate the environmental cost of waste.
The conference, through the participation of a number of experts, academics, and specialists in this field, aims to discuss the results of the latest studies, research, and scientific papers related to sustainable solid waste management, and to explore ways to contribute to the development of a vision for sustainable solid waste management at the national and global levels. It also aims to study opportunities to stimulate investment in waste recycling technologies in the Kingdom, and to examine the obstacles to investment in the field of waste transformation industries. This will be achieved through several themes that the conference will discuss: responsible citizen and valued food, attractive investment, resource recovery, integrated solid waste management, and environmental protection.
This conference comes within the framework of the university's endeavor to contribute to finding scientific solutions for some environmental problems that may affect the safety of the environment and the depletion of natural resources. Participants in the conference seek to reduce the per capita consumption rates in Saudi Arabia of some goods and services, which are among the highest globally. This has increased the volume of solid waste generated, and reduced the depletion and degradation of natural resources due to high consumption rates.
The conference will also discuss the transfer and localization of modern global technologies in the field of waste management in line with the Kingdom's conditions, in addition to addressing the challenges arising from waste, which is the responsibility of every individual in society, raising societal awareness of the risks resulting from waste generation, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among specialists in waste management and sustainable development, and encouraging initiatives aimed at improving sustainable waste management.
