The University, represented by the Department of Optometry at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, in cooperation with the Social Care Home for the Elderly in Unaiza Governorate, concluded yesterday, Tuesday, the comprehensive eye examination campaign for the residents of the home, which was held over a period of three weeks, with the participation of faculty members from the department, optometry doctors and students of the department, where all 45 residents of the home were examined, and the service was provided to all the administrative and health staff supervising the home.
The examinations provided by the optometry department included a comprehensive eye and vision examination for the elderly to ensure that they are safe and free from any visual issues that may limit their vision level, where visual acuity and refractive errors were checked, eye pressure and glaucoma were measured, in addition to examining the anterior segment of the eye, retina and fundus examination, and field of vision testing.
This came as part of the community participation that the Department of Optometry at the college is keen to activate to serve all members of the community, especially the elderly who need constant care and periodic examinations, in order to reduce the complications that may affect them, God forbid.
