His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Al-Jouf region, honored two faculty members from the university. Dr. Saleh Sulaiman Saleh Al-Howerini, Associate Professor of Pesticide Toxicology in the Department of Plant Production and Protection at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, and Professor Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Al-Azazi, Acarology Professor in the Department of Plant Production and Protection at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, were honored for jointly winning the Al-Jouf Olive Research Award. The award was presented during the 12th International Olive Festival in the Al-Jouf region, which was held at the Prince Abdulilah Cultural Center in Sakaka city on Wednesday, 19/5/1440 AH.
The award-winning research aimed to biologically control mite pests affecting olive trees using a local predator registered in Saudi Arabia. Biological control is one of the most important integrated pest management methods, characterized by eliminating pests without resorting to the use of chemical pesticides, which, when used randomly, lead to environmental pollution, as well as affecting natural enemies and other negative impacts on non-target pests.
According to specialists and experts, the research is considered of great scientific and practical value for those interested in organic agriculture and the production of safe and clean crops, free from pesticide residues. This objective is the modern trend in pest control globally.
