Social Work in Addiction

Course Description: The course addresses in-depth concepts related to the nature of social work practice in the field of addiction, which is a complex phenomenon involving psychological, social, and biological dimensions. The course provides an in-depth sociological analysis of the factors leading to addiction, the latest global classifications of narcotic substances and digital addiction, the reasons for their spread, and addiction treatment centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also reviews the roles and skills of the social worker in addiction treatment institutions, the obstacles to social work practice therein, and social work in dealing with the phenomenon of addiction locally and globally in accordance with the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030.

Objectives of the course :

The course aims to provide students with the knowledge frameworks and sociological theories that explain the phenomenon of addiction and its manifestations in Saudi society. It aims to equip them with an in-depth understanding and analysis of the phenomenon, as well as advanced clinical professional intervention skills necessary for dealing with addiction cases. The course also aims to qualify students to design and implement integrated treatment plans that combine psychological and social support, relapse prevention, and community rehabilitation programs, while adhering to professional ethical codes that ensure the dignity of the beneficiary and enhance their opportunities for sustainable reintegration into society.
