Sports recreation for people with special needs

Course Description: This course aims to enhance students' understanding of how to teach, train, and involve individuals with special needs in recreational and movement activities and programs within clubs or schools, including special schools for the disabled and public schools. The course also aims to train students in using modern educational tools to develop programs that prepare children with disabilities for participation in adapted recreational and sports activities.
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: REC 331
Objectives of the course :
  • Developing an integrated and scientific concept for recreational sports for people with disabilities, including an analysis of the theoretical and philosophical foundations associated with this field.
  • Understanding and comprehending recreational foundations and sports programs, with a focus on identifying their specific training and educational needs.
  • Developing the ability to create appropriate individual programs and plans that meet the needs of individuals within sports, recreational, and adapted activities.
  • Preparing and qualifying students to use appropriate teaching methods and strategies for each type of disability or neurodiversity and for each motor skill, within dedicated and inclusive educational units.
  • Ensuring optimal motivation for the learning process, taking into account physical and motor abilities and educational characteristics, without affecting the opportunities of peers within modified sports activities.
  • Training students to develop integrated individual learning plans based on their talents, rights, and needs.
