Psychological statistics

Course Description: The course covers various topics in psychological statistics, starting with an introduction to statistical concepts such as the definition of statistics, its branches, types of statistical methods, the difference between descriptive and inferential methods, population and sample, then data tabulation, and training the student on how to utilize statistical methods and their applications in different fields.
Credit hours: 3
Objectives of the course :

• The course aims to:
• Introduce students to some concepts related to statistics, statistical methods, types of statistics, frequency distributions, and data representation.
• Train students on calculating measures of central tendency and identifying the differences and relationships between them, calculating measures of dispersion, understanding the relationship between them and measures of central tendency, determining the shape of the distribution curve (normal, positive skew, negative skew), and utilizing the coefficient of variation and the relative coefficient of variation.
• Training the student on applying some parametric and non-parametric statistical methods such as the “t”-test, Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon test, and correlation coefficients, the conditions for using each, and how to interpret the results.

Course outputs :

For the student to know the science of statistics and its various objectives
The student will identify the importance of measures of central tendency and the uses of each.
The student should explain the relationship between measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion.
That the student clarifies the differences between descriptive and inferential statistical methods and the importance of each.
The student should explain the differences between parametric and non-parametric statistical methods.
To calculate the measures of central tendency for different data sets.
The student determines the shape of the data distribution using different methods
To interpret the results of various statistical tests, such as the “t-test” and the correlation coefficient.
For the student to calculate the effect sizes of different statistical tests, such as the t-test and the correlation coefficient.
