Introduction to Pathology

Course Description: This course provides students with the necessary knowledge and understanding of basic disease patterns and their underlying mechanisms. The course highlights significant deviations from normal anatomical, histological, and physiological limits within the body, within the context of various disease processes, thereby paving the way for students to understand specialized diseases affecting different body systems. This course encourages the application of acquired knowledge and skills to develop problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.

Objectives of the course :

1. Enhancing students' understanding of the mechanisms underlying various diseases and the accompanying changes in structure and function.
2. Developing students' skills in interpreting and analyzing human diseases. By providing them with anatomical images and patient laboratory data, students will be able to identify pathological histological changes, guiding them to the most probable diagnosis and explaining the mechanism of disease occurrence.
3. Enhance students' competencies necessary for continuous professional development, contributing to the promotion of health.

Course outputs :

Knowledge and understanding
- Identify the main categories of diseases that affect the body, and the basic mechanisms underlying these disorders, including their causes and pathogenesis.
– Description of the morphological (gross and microscopic) changes, prognosis, and complications of various pathological lesions, to aid in the diagnosis of a particular disease.
• Skills:
– Identification of various histopathological lesions when examining gross specimens, which display gross and/or microscopic samples.
– Predict signs and symptoms of the disease based on gross and microscopic tissue changes. .
