Proper sports nutrition is crucial for: * **Energy Provision:** Carbohydrates are the primary fuel source for intense exercise. * **Muscle Repair and Growth:** Protein is essential for repairing muscle tissue damaged during training and for muscle hypertrophy. * **Hydration:** Adequate fluid intake is vital for maintaining performance, regulating body temperature, and preventing dehydration. * **Recovery:** Nutrients play a key role in replenishing glycogen stores, reducing inflammation, and promoting muscle recovery after exercise. * **Injury Prevention:** A well-nourished body is better equipped to handle the stresses of training, potentially reducing the risk of injuries. * **Immune Function:** Micronutrients support a healthy immune system, which can be taxed by intense training. In essence, sports nutrition is not just about what athletes eat, but *how* and *when* they eat to optimize their athletic potential. .
